The District Development Council (DDC) is a brand new level of local self-government, which was established within the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in the year 2020. It was established as a part of the efforts by the government to decentralize power and encourage democratic participation at the grassroots in the region.
DDC (full form) DDC ( DDC full form) is a representative body which is comprised of members elected from every district. The members are elected by an election which is held each five-year period. The DDC is able to design, approve, and implement development plans and plans in the district.
The main functions of the DDC includes:
- The preparation of plans to promote economic development and social justice within the district
- Implementation of programs for development and plans
- Evaluation and monitoring of the development activity within the district
- Collaboration with local bodies in order to ensure the effective implementation of development programs
- Mobilization of resources to support development activities
- Transparency and accountability are promoted in local government
The establishment of the DDC is considered to be a major step in empowering local communities and encouraging an inclusive and sustainable development within Jammu as well as Kashmir.
